Kohli’s father took him to the academy when his neighbors suggested that “Virat should not waste his time in street cricket and instead join a professional club”. Kohli trained at the academy under Rajkumar Sharma and at the same time played matches at the Sumeet Dogra Academy in Vasundhara Enclave. Recalling Kohli’s early days at his academy, Sharma said, “He had talent. It was very difficult to keep him calm. He was natural in whatever he did and I was most impressed by his attitude. But I was ready to bat, and I literally had to push him home after the training session. He just wouldn’t give up.” In the ninth grade, he shifted to the Savior Convent in Paschim Vihar to help with his cricket practice. Apart from sports, Kohli was also good at education, and his teachers remember him as “a bright and alert child”. Kohli’s family lived in Mira Bagh until 2015, when they moved to Gurgaon.
