Getting past the Reds’ towering giant of defense Virgil van Dijk is no easy feat. Not only did Hwang Hee-Chan dribble past the impenetrable star defender, but he also sent him sliding the wrong way and shot a magnificent goal that founds its way to the back of the net. It was an unforgettable match in the 2019 Champions League, a time when Virgil van Dijk was at the pinnacle of his defensive career, making Hee-Chan’s stunt all the more brilliant.

He has caught both Liverpool’s and Manchester City’s eyes and will undoubtedly be on their target list for potential transfers. A Red Bull Salzburg player then, Hwang Hee-Chan will always be remembered for this stunning Anfield performance. Currently, Hwang is on loan from RB Leipzig, and due to his impressive displays for Wolves, he has caught the attention of two of the Big Six.

Although both Liverpool and Manchester City are interested, it seems the Reds have been following his journey for quite some time now. Wolves do have the option to tie Hwang down permanently, but his hefty price tag due to his increasing popularity might prove to be an issue. Thus, the South Korean striker could become a permanent part of Wolves in the upcoming January transfer.

However, Liverpool might not give up so easily just yet. With Mohamed Salah’s and Sadio Mane’s commitments to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, having Hwang in Liverpool’s ranks will prove to be a feasible replacement for Europe’s Deadliest strikers, as named by Sportingbet. Jurgen Klopp will be determined to chase this transfer down.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are hoping to bring Hwang Hee-Chan over to replace their desires for Harry Kane. Guardiola is still reportedly interested in the England Captain, but Hee-Chan proves to be a cheaper option with the same goal threat.

According to recent speculation, however, Wolves want to invest in permanently keeping Hwang and won’t be waiting until the end of the season to make that happen. Wolves journalist Liam Keen comments on Hwang’s transfer possibilities:

“That’s what I’m hearing. I think the way I’ll phrase it is this: they’re hopeful that they’ll be able to get it done in January and get it done early. Obviously, there’s the option in the loan deal to do it for around about £14m is the number – it’s in that region.

“But there’s no surprise, for me. Bruno [Lage] has already said that he wants to keep hold of him. It’s no surprise for me that Wolves are looking to do it early because I think he’s been very, very good.”
