Is Pamela Phillips Still Alive : Pamela Phillips is still alive, but she isn’t free. Once a glamorous socialite, she’s now a convicted killer spending a life sentence at an Arizona state prison for one of the state’s most premeditated and most cold-blooded crimes. Her story is one of murder-for-hire, greed, and fraud.

The Car Bomb That Shook Arizona

Gary Lee Triano, a wealthy real estate developer, was killed in a horrific explosion in November 1996. He had just finished a round of golf at the La Paloma Country Club in Tucson. As he was getting into his vehicle, a pipe bomb hidden inside a blue canvas bag exploded.

He died as a result of the explosion. His skull was also shattered open upon impact. It was a murder that stunned not only Tucson but the entire country.

A Bitter Divorce and Financial Motives

Pamela Phillips and Gary Triano had gotten married in 1986 and had two children together. Their marriage was stormy, and by 1993, the two were formally divorced. The bitterness did not stop there.

The two took out restraining orders on each other, and Phillips later relocated to Colorado, leaving the children away from Triano.

But the most chilling revelation was on life insurance. Triano, then still married, had purchased a $2 million life insurance policy in 1992. Pamela was the trustee. She even paid the premium after her divorce. This raised nasty suspicions after Gary was killed.

Ronald Young : The Hitman Connection

It was when investigations began that Ronald Young was brought to the spotlight. Young had a criminal record and personally knew Phillips. He was found by investigators to have been allegedly paid more than $400,000 by Pamela to kill her ex-husband.

Phone calls, financial tips, and handwritten notes on paper bound them together. Their alleged romance and covert business transactions built a sinister plot. Pamela Phillips wasn’t just a grieving ex-wife but she was the lead suspect.

International Flight and Arrest

Ronald Young was taken into custody in 2005 and charged in 2010. He was found guilty of murder in the first degree and conspiracy to commit murder. He was sentenced to two life terms.

Phillips, however, had departed the United States in 2008. She was arrested over one year later, on December 3, 2009, in Vienna, Austria. Having been extradited to the U.S., she was tried.

In 2014, she also was found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy. Like Young, she was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Life in Prison at Perryville

Pamela Phillips is serving her sentence at Perryville State Prison in Arizona. Though still alive, her old lifestyle is now history. She remains in prison, and all attempts to have the conviction overturned have been in vain.

Unlike Ronald Young, Pamela never admitted guilt. She has always maintained her innocence from the beginning. But the overwhelming amount of evidence told another story to a jury. Her silence in the courtroom didn’t help her cause.

ABC’s 20/20 Re-Opens the Case

On January 24, 2025, ABC’s 20/20 revisited the case to the fore of national attention. The show was aired on Season 47, Episode 14 and featured the cold facts of the investigation and hearing in court.

A Hollywood Plot Turned Reality

The real tragedy is the kids. They lost a father to murder and a mother to prison. They’ve grown up to the sound of the headlines, the courtroom theatrics, and the emotional wounds that time is not able to easily erase.

Justice has been served, but the psychological aftermath still reverberates with all the parties involved in the case.
