The United Nations announced on 11 December 2014 that 21 June would be marked as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131.

Notably, International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21 June as it is the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere.

On June 21, 2015, around 36,000 people, including Prime Minister Modi and many other high-profile political figures from around the world, performed 21 asanas (yoga asanas) for 35 minutes in New Delhi, marking the first International Day of Yoga. , and since then this day is being celebrated across the world.
